By KEVIN JACOBS Due to rain postponement of the race, the NASCAR Saturday night watch party slowly turned into a struggle to entertain guests or fight with the spouse over what to watch on television. No better time for a pre-race rant to bring us through the night and to the green flag for Sunday at Richmond International Raceway. Matt Kenseth won last week at Bristol by again having some restart bargaining with the No. 24 team, but this time being initiated from his camp. 10 Apr 2015 | 9:26 am
In August 1950 Ferrari sent two of their 166MM barchettas for a race at Silverstone in England. These two cars were driven on the road, probably from Paris, by Alberto Ascari and Teodoro “Dorino” Serafini. Ascari was of course a coming World Champion, now already with Ferrari’s Grand Prix team, while Serafini was an ex motorcycle champion racer prewar who drove in selected Grand Prix and sports car races for Ferrari in the early 1950s. At Silverstone they would compete in the under two liter 1 Hour Production Sports Car Race, a support event for the Daily Express…

By David G. Firestone When I first went to the Chicago Sports Museum at the Water Tower Place, I was in heaven. The interactive exhibits were amazing, and a lot of fun. The exhibits were amazing as well. I especially enjoyed the microphone flag display near the main hall. The large display in the Hall of Legends features an entire wall filled with memorabilia from many Chicago area teams, past and present. It’s a really fun place. But when I came to the auto racing display, it was…well…lackluster, to say the least. Two trophies and a champagne bottle didn’t exactly…
  • IndyCar: Grand Prix of Louisiana preview

    motorsportnotes
    9 Apr 2015 | 3:18 pm
IndyCar journeys in to the unknown this weekend with the inaugural Grand Prix of Louisiana. Aero testing at the NOLA circuit in March gave us a taste of what to expect but there are plenty of interesting points to consider. New circuit, new challenges From day 1 during testing drivers were reporting high levels of grip, even on cold tires. For a new circuit that was particularly ‘green’ for testing, high levels of grip were not initially expected. NOLA is a fast circuit with some slower, technical sections. Confidence-building grip for the drivers will encourage them to push the envelope,…
  • Everything, except the race track (and rights), is bigger in Texas

JUSTIN, Texas — Everything is bigger in Texas. Well, just about everything. There are three things that are not bigger in Texas, though. Freedom and liberty are definitely not bigger in Texas – in fact, Texans have lost more rights and liberties than just about any other state within the past three years.  When it comes to more freedom and more liberties granted to the people, that honor goes to the State of Oregon. The trophy is not bigger in Texas, either. In fact, the main prize for winning the race is one of the smallest and lightest prizes in the sport: a Cougar Magnum.  When it…

    Kara Morton

Our review score: 8.2 / 10 The direct answer is not a chance! The 2015 Subaru Outback is a rugged and durable SUV that offers top-notch safety for you and your family. An ideal vehicle for your active lifestyle, the Subaru Outback provides family-focused design and superior off-roading performance. • Are Electric Cars Doomed to Fail?

    Elliot Chan
    22 Apr 2015 | 8:47 am
Electric cars reduce emissions and operate on a cheaper cost, so why aren’t we all driving one? The main argument against electric vehicles is that the charging infrastructures require improvements and charging times need to be shortened. For a plug-in hybrid car, like the Chevy Volt, charging time – from empty to full – is approximately 10 hours from a 120-volt socket. If electric car manufacturers are unable to reduce the time it takes to charge a car, then this greener option will have a hard time replacing conventional vehicles. However, Yoshikazu Tanaka, chief engineer of the…

    Elliot Chan
    15 Apr 2015 | 6:03 am
After the excitement of picking your new car, it’s time to focus on paying for it, which you’ll likely do through financing. If a car loan is your preferred method of payment, make sure you understand that you will probably end up paying more than the agreed upon price due to interest. In spite of this, more and more people in Canada are taking out auto loans. According to a report by Moody’s Investor Services, loans on passenger vehicles reached $64-billion at the end of 2013. One main reason is because banks are now offering longer terms, some lasting as long as 96 months (or eight…
  • SUV vs. Crossover: What’s the Actual Difference?

    Elliot Chan
    9 Apr 2015 | 6:05 am
To the untrained eye SUVs and crossovers (also known as CUVs) don’t have too many differences. They are both considerable family vehicles with ample room for passengers and cargo. But due to recent negative association with the term “SUV,” manufacturers have started establishing a form separation between the two. CUVs – like the Honda CR-V – are now marketed as having the practical attributes of an SUV, but with car-like drivability and fuel efficiency. While CUVs still fall into the same category as SUVs for many – who dub SUVs as any vehicle with all-wheel drive and high ground…
