Kobayashi in Abu Dhabi
1 Nov 2009 | 4:44 amAnyone want to believe that maybe the real story of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was not the winner Sebastian Vettel, not Lewis Hamilton who might have won after his pole but he had brake problems, and not even Jenson Button who gave a great battle effort with Mark Webber for third place, but was Kamui Kobayashi? After passing two world champions, Kimi Raikkonen at the start and Button after the first third of the race, Kobayashi managed to drive his Toyota to sixth position, ahead of his teammate Jarno Trulli. It was a beautiful, gutsy drive, and we would like to see more just like it! So would… -

F1's First Day in Abu Dhabi
30 Oct 2009 | 11:39 amIt's only the second track at which we have seen the artificial lighting of a night race over a Formula 1 track. The other is the Singapore Grand Prix. But the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will start ini the day and finish at night. Today saw the race's first practice sessions, and the second session ended in darkness under the floodlights. These are not the same lighting system as Singapore, and you can see the difference on television. When you're at the Abu Dhabi track, the effect of the lighting looks pretty much as good as Singapore, if different. But when seen on the television, the effect is…

5 Nov 2009 | 10:30 pmKimi Raikkonen stands to make more money in 2010 if he takes a sabbatical. Germany's Auto Motor und Sport reports that if the Finn accepts McLaren's current offer, he will earn 15 million euros in 2010, as opposed to 17m if he has a season on the sidelines. According to his termination deal with Ferrari, the Italian team has promised to pay Raikkonen, 30, 17 million if he does not race in F1 next year, and 10m if he finds suitable employment elsewhere. Realising this, McLaren has reportedly offered Raikkonen just 5 million for ...

Nice going NASCAR
1 Nov 2009 | 3:08 pmOh yeah the rules and regulations really made Dega racing so much better, NOT! In my opinion, NASCAR is losing its fan base and it's not just because of the economy. Question
30 Oct 2009 | 11:22 pmWill you watch Sunday's race at Dega after NASCAR has screwed with the cars once again? I really don't know if I'll watch it or not. Unfortunately, I've really become bored with Sprint Cup. The Truck and Nationwide series are a so much more interesting and has less of the bull crap. In my opinion, NASCAR is ruining itself and it's quite obvious that NASCAR doesn't care what the fans want. That's fine NASCAR have it your way, but you'll have more and more empty seats because of it. A matter of fact, we didn't renew our Daytona 500 seats for next season. And when and if NASCAR removes its head…

4 Nov 2009 | 7:55 pmIs everybody done talking about Talladega yet? Let’s move on to talking about more important things like “What will Chandra Johnson be wearing during Champion’s Week?” and “Who will be Chad Knaus’ date?” or “Can I be Ron Malec’s date?” (I’m kidding, okay, sorta, no really I’m kidding, maybe.) tallafreakindega: you can’t stop the drama
2 Nov 2009 | 8:20 pmOverall I think Talladega went down pretty much the same way it would have gone down had NASCAR not instituted the new rules, smaller restrictor plate and no bumping in the turns. Those guys were going to hold off until the end and then crap was going to hit the fan in the final laps. Because really, at Talladega if you’re 35th you’re still in it, it’s all about being there in the end and getting in a good line up to the front. I wasn’t mad about the whole no touching each other in the corners rule because of the rule itself, but more anxious about the enforcement of… -

Let the Games Continue!
6 Nov 2009 | 1:00 am[originally published in KCN, October 2000] The flame may be out in Sydney, but our society’s fire for sports will never be doused. There’s nothing like the Olympics, however, to bring out our patriotic competitiveness. It’s great to watch our dedicated athletes who have invested their lives in perfecting their sport obtain Olympic status. It’s inspiring to see them push the human-envelope of performance and break records. It gives us a sense of pride. And because they reside in the same country as us, there is a certain part of us that shares in their glory. This feeling… -
Texas Odds - Johnson Should Wrap Up The Chase This Week In Texas
5 Nov 2009 | 1:21 pmJimmie Johnson is a simple sportsbook pick for players, for two reasons: (1) he usually comes through, and (2) he has the best crew chief in the game in Chad Knaus. Johnson used strategy and luck for a good finish at Talladega, and now he heads to Texas Motor Speedway for the Dickies 500 on Sunday with a great chance to close out the Chase, and win his fourth straight title. Texas Odds – Sunday, November 8, 3:15 PM ET Jimmie Johnson (+420): The No.48 driver’s 8.5 average is the best among active drivers at Texas, and his duel with Matt Kenseth to win this race in 2007 was one of… -

The seat of #1 Chevy that’s been piloted by Martin Truex jr. for the past 7 or 8 years is up for grabs and an announcement could be coming this week on who will replace Truex. A few names have circulated the garage area the past few months and the conversation always end with Jamie McMurray getting the nod, which coincidently is where McMurray started his Cup career subbing for the injured Sterling Marlin. My personal opinion is it won’t be Mac daddy(Jamie McMurray) in the drivers seat, I hope I don’t ruin his… -

Is it time to stop racing at Talladega?
3 Nov 2009 | 5:31 pmOn Sunday at Talladega two Nascar Sprint Cup Series cars wound up airborne and upside down. Ryan Newman took a wild ride that saw his car land eventually on its roof, which was crushed in. He had to be cut out of his car once it was flipped over. Luckily he walked away. Mark Martin went upside down on a green-white-checkered finish. This came just months after Carl Edwards got airborne and went into the catch fence in front of the grandstand which injured several fans thanks to flying debris. My question is it time to stop racing at Talladega because it’s too dangerous not just…

A Truck Series Rebound? And Rick Ren Leaving KHI?
5 Nov 2009 | 10:47 pmThis year has been a particularly brutal one for car counts in the Camping World Truck Series. While there usually is a full field, many teams choose to start and park. Looking at 2010 though things are looking up for the truck series. Richard Childress Racing is expected to field at least one team in 2010 for team owner Richard Childress’ grandson Austin Dillon. The last time RCR fielded a full time truck series team was 1999. There have also been rumblings that Tim George Jr. will drive a second truck for RCR. As the original championship team in the series, it is exciting to see RCR… -
Hey CWTS on SPEED Crew, We Got Your Back

On Saturday, during the pre-race show for the Truck Series race on SPEED, the broadcast crew which includes Rick Allen, Phil Parsons, Michael Waltrip, Adam Alexander, Ray Dunlap, and Krista Voda, all dressed up for Halloween. The Nationwide COT…Looks Pretty Cool
2 Nov 2009 | 8:33 pmAfter years of complaints from fans (and drivers for that matter) over the looks of the Cup Series COT, NASCAR undoubtedly didn’t want a repeat as they developed the Nationwide COT. This weekend we got our first glimpse of all four stickered up Nationwide COT’s. I don’t know how you feel about the cars, but in my opinion the manufacturers and teams (of course with NASCAR) did a good job making the cars look more like a production model. I was fortunate enough to see a Challenger COT early in development and I was happy to see through the process there weren’t any major… -
NASCAR Steps In It Again
1 Nov 2009 | 8:12 pmIt seems this season that no matter what NASCAR does in terms of competition, they get it wrong. Today’s race at Talladega was yet another example. During the pre-race drivers meeting, NASCAR informed the drivers that they would not tolerate overly aggressive driving and bump drafting in the corners. Violators would be penalized. The drivers took them seriously, and what proceeded was a 500 mile, 36 car parade with a little three wide racing mixed in. Jamie McMurray triumphed in the end after all hell broke loose with two late race crashes, one in which Ryan Newman ended up on his…
