July results surprised analysts to the higher side, expanding by 1.2% m/m against a consensus expectation that sales would show no increase versus June. The anticipated deceleration is likely premised to some extent on base effects, given a fairly sturdy m/m increase of 1.2% (sa) in August last year. The risk to the m/m change is less pronounced. The discrepancy versus the y/y change is explained by different…

А по их, по западным меркам, это такое преступление, за которое положены бомбёжки и артобстрелы. Из новостей:   Референдум  (о независимости Шотландии)…

I don’t know about you guys, but I am LOVING this new Chase format. It’s so intriguing and crazy. The fact that I’m saying this while my favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt Jr. is currently sitting in an eliminate-able position after Kansas speaks volumes. Even if he’s cut after the next two races I’m still all in on this Chase. I can completely understand why the drivers involved in this deal would hate it but it’s fun that all of the points are reset after each round and drivers are removed from the running. There is always something at stake now, ALWAYS, and…

Clint Bowyer was asked about the birth of his son, Cash Aaron Bowyer, this morning at his press conference in Kansas. His quotes are everything you’d expect from Clint. It feels like I’ve been posting a lot about him lately but it’s just really funny, good stuff. What has it been like to become a father? “First of all, just so happy and proud. What a wild experience — all your friends and family, peers and everybody is trying to warn you and tell you that it’s going to change your life. You’re like, ‘There’s no way.’ Then all of the…

Due to unforeseen circumstances, I had to end voting in the finals earlier than planned. There was an overwhelming number of votes cast and I can say with a VERY clear conscience, and without any doubt, that even if the voting had continued through Saturday night Josh Wise would still be your winner. In the end Josh beat David Ragan, 99.41% to 0.59%. Congratulations to Josh Wise and his VERY supportive fan base. Dogecoin anyone? I, for one, am impressed by their dedication to the voting process. This contest isn’t rigged, it can’t be rigged and there’s literally NO POINT in…

  • Customer cars in F1: time for a ‘new’ old idea?

    motorsportnotes
    26 Sep 2014 | 6:11 am
F1’s leading teams may need to field 3 cars at some point in the near future. Caterham are teetering on the brink, Marussia run pretty much sponsor-free regularly and Sauber are in real danger of missing out on transportation money for 2015. Gene Haas’ new US-based F1 team could soften the blow, but that will only paper over the cracks if 2-3 teams fold and the 20 cars limited is breached. As has long been the case for F1, the financial realities of the sport are damaging it from the inside. There is of course a solution (an old one) for both the current worries over a shrinking grid and…
  • Stewart Says Crash Was "100 Percent" Accident

    KTVTPhil
    26 Sep 2014 | 3:20 am
HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (AP) - There were days when Tony Stewart couldn’t get out of bed. It was a chore to take a shower, to leave his room. The television was on, he would stare at it, and have no idea what he was watching. He didn’t care about racing. He didn’t want to talk to anyone, let alone face his family, friends or other drivers. Stewart’s grief over the death of Kevin Ward Jr. was overwhelming, and he couldn’t find his way out of the fog. Stewart, one of NASCAR’s biggest stars, spent three weeks in seclusion at his Indiana home after the car he was…

The starter up on his podium at the left has dropped the Union Jack and turns away as the two BRMs explode at the start of The Woodcote Cup Formula Libre race for Grand Prix cars at Goodwood on September 27, 1952. Nearest the camera is Reg Parnell’s BRM while across the grid is a sister car driven by Froilán González. The next car behind Parnell’s BRM is Tony Vandervell’s modified Ferrari 375 F1 called the Thinwall Special, thereby advertising Vandervell thin wall bearings, which is being driven by the 1950 World Champion Giuseppe “Nino” Farina who was a…
  • Pacers say George putting weight on broken leg, doing upper body work

    Associated Press
    25 Sep 2014 | 11:16 am
INDIANAPOLIS — Paul George is getting back on his feet. Less than two months after sustaining a gruesome compound fracture of his right leg, team doctors have cleared the Pacers’ two-time All-Star to put weight on his injured leg and begin upper body work in the weight room. “He’s down to one crutch or no crutches,” coach Frank Vogel said Thursday at the team’s annual golf outing near Indianapolis Motor Speedway. “For the past three or four weeks, he’s been doing core work, upper body work in the weight room, and they want him to put weight on…

  • Sir Jackie Stewart - Still an Icon 50 Years Later

    kkennedy
    24 Sep 2014 | 7:17 pm
One of the bucket-list events for anyone who enjoys historic auto racing has to be the annual Goodwood Revival. Looking through photographs and videos of this year’s event it was a pleasure to see one of racing’s true legends – Sir Jackie Stewart – being honored as the “hero” of this year’s event. Twenty-nine cars from Stewart’s career were on site for this year’s Revival, including the Tyrell Ford F1 car he drove in his final season in 1973, when he captured the last of his three World Championships. It’s interesting to note that Stewart actually had a relatively short…
  • How Do You Watch Racing Today? Two-Screening is the New Trend

    kkennedy
    15 Aug 2014 | 8:51 am
How do you watch auto racing? Certainly, track promoters are hoping you are buying tickets and visiting your local short track, or large, stadium track for events like NASCAR, IndyCar or NHRA. But if you are an avid race fan – and you likely are if you’re reading this – you probably consume much of your racing the way most of America does – on your television. Racing on television has been a pioneer for many innovations, from in-car cameras, to helmet cams, to cameras buried in the track surface, to the cameras on wire that may scream along the front stretch or pit road … sometimes…
  • Pick Your Favorite Race Car? Never As Easy As It Looks

    kkennedy
    1 Aug 2014 | 8:34 am
The only thing better than arguing over the best all-time race car driver, is arguing about favorite race cars. Taste is certainly in the eye of the beholder.  But often times, favorite race cars are packaged around favorite racing memories – the race you attended, or the legend you saw drive. The great thing is, there is no “right” answer. With so many different forms of racing, and so many different eras of racing, favorite race cars come in all shapes, sizes, and powertrains. RACER Magazine asked its readers at the start of this year to vote for their favorite race cars of all…
  • First Brickyard 400 Race Remains Memorable for Many Reasons

What makes a memorable race? There are plenty of things that could go into that answer – a great finish, an unexpected winner, a weather delay, a crash that changes the outcome, and many more things. But one of the most memorable races for me was because of where it took place – the Indianapolis Motor Speedway – and what was running there – NASCAR stock cars. The year was 1994, and for anyone who had been to an Indianapolis 500 more than once, NASCAR stock cars rolling into the garages at Indianapolis for the first Brickyard 400 was certainly an unusual sight. Tradition had officially…
  • Road Course Racing and NASCAR: Is it Time for More?

    kkennedy
    25 Jun 2014 | 12:18 pm
In the spirit of full disclosure, I love NASCAR racing on road courses. To be honest, I like almost all racing on road courses, but I especially love when the stock cars, truly not built for road course in their design and small tire patches, take on the lefts and rights of places like Sonoma, Watkins Glen or Road America (or even Montreal in the past). The “dancing elephants,” as they were once called years ago, almost always put on a great show at the road course races.  Who doesn’t remember the back-and-forth, through the grass, last lap pass on the outside battle Marcos Ambrose…

  • BMW Honours 2014 DTM Champion With Limited Edition M4

    Taras Trofimov
    22 Oct 2014 | 8:33 am
To honour the 2014 DTM champion Marco Wittmann, BMW is preparing to launch a limited-edition M4, which will sell only 23 units. Why 23? Because that was Wittmann’s actual racing number when he won the competition. To make the tribute even more apparent, BMW put the number “23” on the vehicle’s doors as well as “WIT” and “DTM Champion 2014” lettering at the rear, both of which are complemented by the German flag. Inside, owners will find Wittmann’s signature on the dashboard. The BMW M4 DTM features 19-inch light-alloy wheels, carbon aerodynamic details and an…
  • Are Talking Cars a Bad Idea?

    Elliot Chan
    22 Oct 2014 | 6:00 am
Talking cars have been portrayed in media for generations, but now this fantasy is closer to reality than ever. Of course, I’m not talking about KITT from Knight Rider or Herby the Love Bug (be sure to view our list of top movie cars for more goodies). What I’m referring to is an innovative vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) technology that enables cars on the road to communicate with one another. By 2020, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is hoping to have mandated the new automotive communication system in an effort to reduce collisions. Relying on various…
  • Deadly Airbag Crisis in U.S. Gets Worse

    21 Oct 2014 | 9:23 am
Takata Corp. shares fell 23 per cent in Tokyo today as the U.S. government urged car owners to immediately fix the company-supplied airbags because of a potentially deadly defect. The infiltrator mechanism in the airbags can rupture, which can make shrapnel to fly out once the bags are deployed during collisions. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), which has been investigating the problem since June, at least four people have died due to this problem, while three people have suffered multiple injuries. In a follow-up to earlier recall notices, the NHTSA is…
  • Ferrari and Facebook Sued for Taking Control of Fan Pages

Ferrari S.p.A. and Facebook, Inc. are getting sued by a Swiss father and son for allegedly seizing control of their Ferrari fan pages. According to Bloomberg, Oliver and Sammy Wasem have filed the lawsuit in California state court – right after a legal conflict in Europe between them and the Italian automaker over two of their Facebook pages: “Ferrari Fan Page” and “Formula 1 Vision.” Sammy created the “Ferrari Fan Page” in 2008, when he was just fifteen years old. It eventually gained over half a million followers, eclipsing the actual Ferrari brand page. In March of 2009,…

Porsche has worked out a deal with Pope Francis to rent out the Sistine Chapel for the entertainment of 40 high-paying guests. Located in Vatican City, the famous Sistine Chapel will serve as a backdrop for a concert and dinner this Saturday. The event will be part of a week-long tour of Rome, organized by the Porsche Travel Club for a very exclusive group of visitors. This is the first time anyone has leased out the Sistine Chapel for corporate purposes. The earnings are set to go to various charities working with the poor and homeless, though the Vatican hasn’t disclosed how much it will…
