By Stephanie Agresta I never thought I would be in a fantasy sports league.  Football and baseball leagues always seemed so hard – participating in a draft, building your own team, etc. I’m sure some people find that the best part — personalizing your own NFL or MLB organization.  For the NASCAR league I’m in (my first ever, as I’m a NASCAR newbie), it’s a little more straightforward: Just pick the winners! My competitive nature likes this a lot. Of course, there is some strategy to it – you can only use each driver a certain number of times, and…

  • NASCAR Teams – Take a Stand!

    18 Nov 2009 | 6:57 pm
Everyone is aware that a severe sponsor recession is hitting the NASCAR industry. But many are blaming the broader economic crisis as opposed to examining the dreadful trends eroding the NASCAR value proposition. NASCAR is facing a steady drop in television viewership, race attendance and overall fan interest, and the costs to operate a Sprint Cup team has almost tripled since 2002. Today, the top three teams – Hendrick Motorsports, Joe Gibbs Racing, and Roush Fenway Racing— are seeking complete season sponsorships between $22 million to $25 million. With the going rate per race anywhere…

Rumors are running rampant that Danica Patrick is going to jump from IndyCar to NASCAR. Is this a negotiating tactic with Andretti Green Racing and Chip Ganassi Racing or is she seriously considering a move to stock car racing? One must wonder why the poster child of IndyCar Racing would take the risk and make a move to NASCAR, which undisputedly, is crumbling as I speak. I can image NASCAR dangling HUGE financial incentives and prepackage endorsements, but why take the risk? On the flipside to NASCAR’s continued problems with retaining the support of the automakers, IndyCar Racing is…

(Photo Credit: Chris Graythen/Getty Images) “Do this, don’t do that.” NASCAR seems to be all about rules. Rules are spelled out in intricate detail for each race weekend as to what the race has in store, how things are going to be monitored, and even how the drivers should (or shouldn’t) race. But isn’t all of this just a little too much? After all, who is NASCAR to tell these guys how to race? Isn’t this series…

There’s just nothing like being at the racetrack! (Photo Credit: Streeter Lecka/Getty Images) Why is it that we always leave the racetrack so happy? After all, most people walk away with a sunburn that would make a cherry blush, that hotdog they ate is giving them heartburn, and someone spilled beer all over their new Dale Jr. T-shirt! How is that enjoyable? Well fans, that’s racing! With every cloud, there is a silver lining. The Dale Jr. shirt may have a stain, but it will come out with some good elbow grease. The hotdog may be paying you back now, but at the time it was delicious!

With three laps to go, the field goes four-wide on the final restart in the NASCAR Nationwide Series Copart 300 at Auto Club Speedway on Saturday in Fontana, Calif. (Photo Credit: Chris Graythen/Getty Images) The ultimate goal in pretty much any form of motorsports is to win. Week to week and race to race, that may mean visiting victory lane after a given event. But when it comes to the ultimate goal over the course of a season — well, that would be a championship. When a championship isn’t in the cards, drivers and teams strive to finish in the top-10. NASCAR has tightened that…
