That part of town would put the race under Clark County jurisdiction and not the jurisdiction of the City of Las Vegas. Jackie Speier, U.S. Representative from California, sent a letter to NASCAR and Stewart-Haas Racing recently, calling for the suspension of Kurt Busch amid a domestic abuse allegation made against him by ex-girlfriend, Patricia Driscoll. I, by no means, want to make light the crime of domestic violence. It’s a serious crime and anyone guilty of said crime should be held accountable and punished for it. 18 Nov 2014 | 6:37 am
Okay, now the first installment of this new-format Chase for the Sprint Cup is in this history books. Did you like it? Hate it? Are you indifferent to it? I admit I was kind of iffy on it when this format was first announced before the start of the 2014 season. I was okay with eliminations at least part of the way through the 10-race Chase, but I wasn’t sure about the championship coming down to one race. The more I thought about it, though, and after seeing it play out once, it grew on me. Critics of this new Chase, some of those being critics of the Chase through all of it…

  • IndyCar and ovals: getting America back in love

    motorsportnotes
    29 Oct 2014 | 7:00 am
Putting schedules and TV broadcast to one side, IndyCar is going in the right direction. One important element however is not keeping pace: interest in oval racing. The barren grandstands everywhere but Indianapolis point to a painful conclusion – America has fallen out of love with open-wheel oval racing. And that is bad for the continued strengthening of the series. The situation owes much to the IRL/Champ Car split – the usual ‘easy to blame’ culprit but very justified in this case. The IRL’s oval focus and ChampCar’s preference for road/street courses forced fans down the…

  • Toyota Recalls 423,000 Lexus Cars in US, 19,000 in Canada

    Katie Krol
    21 Nov 2014 | 10:15 am
Toyota is recalling almost 423,000 of its Lexus luxury brand cars in the United States and 19,000 in Canada due to a fuel leak that may cause fire. The recall covers three different models: the 2006 to 2011 GS, 2007 to 2010 LS and 2006 to 2011 IS. These vehicles have fuel lines that are built with nickel phosphate plating to protect against corrosion. Some lines could have been built with particles coming in contact with a gasket. That can cause the sealing property to deteriorate and trigger fuel leaks, which could potentially lead to fire. Toyota claims that it is not aware of any fires or…
  • New Nissan Altima May Just Be What Your Family Needs

    Katie Krol
    21 Nov 2014 | 8:40 am
The 2015 Nissan Altima boasts a respectable cabin, solid fuel economy and top safety scores, but its CVT transmission may not be for everyone. The new Nissan Altima hits a checkbox in almost every category, which is why it’s one of the best full-size sedans around.  Large cabin space? Check. Great comfort and ride quality? Check. Good safety scores? Check. Respectable fuel economy? Check. There really isn’t much to criticize about this vehicle, but if we’re going to get nitpicky – the continuously variable transmission may be a deal breaker for some. When it comes to the Altima, we…
  • New FIAT 500X Will Get You Through a Tough Winter

    Katie Krol
    20 Nov 2014 | 9:22 am
The 2016 FIAT 500X will roll into North American dealership showrooms next year as the brand’s first all-wheel-drive vehicle built for tough winter conditions. FIAT has struggled a bit on the North American market where buyers are drifting away from small cars and buying more SUVs. The FIAT 500L subcompact, first introduced in 2011, has struggled to sell, so hopes are that the 500X will deliver what the North American buyers are looking for. “But the biggest opportunity for us with [the Fiat 500X] is where we get some inclement weather,” said Jason Stoicevich, head of the FIAT brand in…
  • Volkswagen Recalls 126,000 Cars in Canada to Fix Suspensions

    Katie Krol
    19 Nov 2014 | 9:29 am
Volkswagen is recalling 126,000 Jetta and Beetle vehicles in Canada to fix an issue that can cause the rear suspension to fail if the car is not repaired properly after an accident. The recall also affects 442,000 cars in the United States and is inclusive of 2011 to 2013 Jetta models and 2012 and 2013 Beetle models. The German automaker outlined the issue in a document posted by the U.S. safety regulators today. The potential problem can occur if the rear trailing arms, which are the parts that connect the axle to the frame, are damaged in a crash and not properly repaired as they can…
  • 10 Reliable Cars That Will Depreciate Far Too Quickly

    Elliot Chan
    19 Nov 2014 | 6:00 am
Reliable cars will get you to all the places you want to go with minimal hassle, but they may not have the best resale value on the market. Certain vehicles that are deemed “reliable” by the critics have also shown to have higher depreciation rates. To be fair, cheap low-quality cars suffer from this even more, but some actually don’t – just check this list, if you don’t believe us! Car owners don’t often consider the resale value of their new vehicle, but they should. With so many options out there in the automotive market, the ability to recognize the residual value of a car…
